After a one-year sojourn at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, the Truist Championship, along with seven of the top-ranked golfers in the world, will head back to Quail Hollow for a final test before next week’s PGA Championship. Rory McIlroy will tee it up for the first time since his second Masters victory, as will defending champ Sepp Straka.

Along with McIlroy, OWGR top-10 pros Matt Fitzpatrick, Cameron Young, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Xander Schauffele and J.J. Spaun will trek to North Carolina for the signature event. McIlroy has won at Quail Hollow four times in his career, most recently in 2024 by five strokes over Xander Schauffele. That was Schauffele’s second runner-up at the Truist in back-to-back years.

Other big names this week include Tony Finau and Max Homa—who are not currently in the PGA field—along with locals Mackenzie Hughes and Webb Simpson. Last year’s champ, Straka, won by two shots over Shane Lowry and Justin Thomas. It was Straka’s second win of the calendar year and featured an opening-round 63.

The green at the narrow 15th is typically Quail Hollow’s hardest to reach in regulation.

The uphill 12th with water left and right is listed as a par 5 but will take scores of 4s and even 3s to win.

Few golf course projects had more national attention in recent years than Quail Hollow, mainly because its front nine was redesigned just a year before it hosted the 2017 PGA Championship. The par-4 first and par-3 second holes were completely torn up, replaced by a new long dogleg-right par-4 opening hole.
