Ireland investigates Instagram, Facebook recommender systems

Irish broadcasting and online media regulator Coimisiun na Mean (Cnam) has opened two separate formal investigations into Meta under the EU Digital Services Act (DSA). The investigations will examine whether Meta-owned Instagram and Facebook have violated Articles 27 and 25 of the DSA. This is in response to concerns about potential ‘dark patterns’, or deceptive/manipulative user interface designs, which could stop users from exercising their right to select a recommender system that does not use profiling.
