A Lithuanian woman accused of stabbing four people in the Bulgarian coastal city of Varna will be transferred to the prison psychiatric hospital in Lovech for evaluation, according to information released by the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office in Varna.

The 47-year-old suspect, who has already been charged with attempted murder, is expected to remain in the specialized medical institution for 30 days while psychiatric examinations and additional assessments are carried out.

The attack occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on May 4 on Podvis Street in Varna. Prosecutors say the woman assaulted several strangers without any apparent motive, targeting people near and inside a grocery store.

During the incident, three men and one woman were stabbed. Two of the victims, including a man and a woman, required hospital treatment and remained under medical care after the attack. The other two injured individuals were released after receiving treatment for less serious wounds.

Police officers detained the suspect at the scene shortly after the stabbing. Authorities later determined that she had consumed a large quantity of alcohol before the incident took place.

According to prosecutors, the woman initially spent her detention period in a specialized hospital because she was reportedly in an unstable and inadequate condition following her arrest.

The prosecution stated that the court’s ruling regarding her transfer to the psychiatric institution can still be appealed before the appellate court in Varna. The investigation into the case remains ongoing.
