Popradské pleso shone like a green eye in the middle of the blue sky, surrounded by mountains that still held snow on their peaks. The lake, at almost 1,500 meters above sea level, remains frozen for much of the year, making it a paradise for winter sports. Walking its trails in autumn or summer means discovering a landscape that has inspired filmmakers for over a century, from “Nosferatu” in 1922 to adventure stories filmed in the Tatras. Every step around the crystal-clear water carries the feeling of being in a mythical place, where nature and history meet in perfect harmony.
