Esra Işık, the daughter of İkizköy Neighborhood Headman Nejla Işık, who was detained on March 30 on the charge of “resisting not to perform her duty” following the protests during the expert discovery against the urgent expropriation of 7 villages around Akbelen Forest in Muğla’s Milas district, was released.

Milas 3rd Chief Criminal Court decided to release Işık, requesting a travel ban and judicial control. The court also postponed the hearing, which was planned to be held on June 26, to June 1.

The people of İkizköy were very happy when they learned about the evacuation after the 6th Chamber of the Council of State issued a stay of execution of urgent expropriation decisions. Mother Işık, who participated in the protest at Milas Courthouse for her daughter, came to Izmir with the news of her release.

Speaking to Cumhuriyet, Işık said, “It was a difficult road, a difficult struggle, and the stay of execution in the cases we filed was a great lifeline to our struggle. The only thing we lacked was our daughter. We were separated from our daughter. She was sent from Muğla to Şakran for 42 days, unjustly and unlawfully. ‘I was exiled,’ she said. We are very happy. Congratulatory calls and support calls are coming from everywhere, from everyone. People from all over Türkiye are calling and sharing our happiness and sadness.” “I thank everyone very much. I would like to thank all our friends, comrades, lawyers, and everyone who did not leave us alone in this struggle. It was a wonderful Mother’s Day gift and I did not want to spend the holiday apart from my child, thank God.”
