As the weather gets warmer, it’s no surprise that outdoor and other physical activities are dominating this week’s schedule: running, a pop-up steam bath session, and a yoga class, with a dash of music in between.

Yoga class at Lífspekifélagið, 12.00pm
How about yoga for lunch? Eva Rós Gústavsdóttir leads a gentle yoga class every Tuesday at noon. The 60-minute session includes a variety of physical exercises, breathing techniques, meditation, and ends with a period of relaxation, also known as savasana.

Ægir, an album launch at Iðnó, 20.00
Drummer and experimental musician Ægir Sindri is the founder of the label Why Not? Plöttur and music venue R6013. The artist celebrates the release of his tenth solo album with a concert at Iðnó. The album, titled ‘conditioned by experience’, combines elements of hardcore punk and metal. Explosive and intense, it carries on a message of resilience and dedication to a free-spirited avant-garde approach.

Running session, Neskirkja, 9.30
In Iceland, Ascension Day is a public holiday. Although many businesses close for the day, churches organise services and alternative events. Neskirkja in Vesturbær (West Reykjavík) will host a 10k run followed by a tea party. Participants are welcome to run at their own pace.

Kjartan Hugi, a concert at Mengi, 20.00
Icelandic musician Kjartan Hugi performs a largely improvised set using a selection of woodwind instruments and percussion. The performance will showcase material from the artist’s forthcoming solo project.
Inspired by musical traditions from around the world, as well as seminal solo works by legendary saxophonists Peter Brötzmann and Anthony Braxton, the album blends exploratory improvisation with a richly diverse sonic palette.

Pop-up steam bath at Post-húsið, 12.00
May is an ideal time for restorative spa rituals. The steam session at Post-húsið lasts just over an hour, with three short breaks throughout. Guests will enjoy water infused with herbal drops, moon meditation, body and facial scrubs, and nourishing skin oils. At the end of the session, you will also have the opportunity to browse the little witch shop, featuring merchandise from La Brújería.

Lopi og Orð, a knitting session at the Reykjavík City Library, 15.00
Lopi og orð (Knitting and Words) is a gathering for anyone who enjoys crafts such as knitting, crochet, or embroidery and has a basic knowledge of Icelandic. The event aims to create a relaxed and cosy space where learners of Icelandic can practise their language skills while connecting with Icelandic culture through handcrafts and conversation.
