Good, the standard political process is being followed and we’ll see what comes out of it.

Finally, hopefully he faces some sort of punishment for the £5m bribe he was given.

About fucking time, though he’ll play the victim once again and his voters will lap it up.

I look forward to finding out that it’s perfectly reasonable to receive £5million pounds as a gift, no strings attached.

Can’t wait to read all the Farage sycophants coming out and saying that the standards watchdog investigating things he has actually done is in fact just a witch hunt.

Man will say anything for £50
Wonder what he would say and do for 5mil

I suggest any standards and rules the government has around this are followed by all parties to the letter and all outstanding issues taken care of quickly because once reform get in, these watchdogs will be taken over and dismantled in the same way Trump has. And any standards, rules and laws will no longer be followed, and will be exploited for gain.

I think all of Chris Harbornes donations to Reform/Brexit Party need investigating. As some journalists have been looking into them deeper, they are a bit odd to say the least.

He gets away with all his corruption. Remember when he started a race riot?
ric_mcc1766 on
Seems likely he will get a lengthy suspension, and there may even be a by-election, which he’ll win. He’ll love it as it will give him plenty of chances to cry victim and get lots of press coverage for Roform and himself.
Reform will come out the stronger, whilst people in other parties continue to get drubbed in the press for minor things and wrongthink.
Anyales on
It is not a gift, it is a political donation by Farages own acknowledgement (though he didn’t realise because hes dim). Farage stated that this was for his personal security which means it would support his political activities.
A transfer of money, goods, or services is legally classified as a political donation if it is given specifically to support or benefit the politician’s political activities.
Even if he believed he had an argument the rules state he must consult the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards or the Electoral Commission for a formal ruling.

I’m going to spoil the outcome of this for everyone – he’ll be let off with a slap on the wrist, a very sternly written letter or a perishingly small fine. Politics is played on easy mode for people like Nigel.

He’s not going to dodge this and it’s highly doubtful he can lay his hands on £5m worth of receipts for his excuse of personal security. That would be £1m a year on security up until the date he expected to enter office at the next election, after which he would have got taxpayer-funded security.
Ben Habib is on record saying the £5m was a bribe by Harborne to encourage him to return to British politics after he deserted Brexit for the USA.
Farage has since spent his time doing the rounds on the right wing TV/podcast circuit to promote Harborne’s Tether cryptocurrency and placed a cryptocurrency manifesto drafted with/by Harborne in a prominent position on the Reform website.

Good – if we can have media nervous breakdowns over Angela Rayner making a mistake on her house purchase after being given advice we should at least be investigating £5m given to Farage that the media couldn’t give a crap about.

>The rules also say “both the possible motive of the giver and the use to which the gift is to be put should be considered”, adding “if there is any doubt, the benefit should be registered”.
Well that should be that, really – pretty much clear as day. People don’t just give you £5m on a whim without any **possible** motivation, and there’s certainly room for doubt. The investigation itself is almost self-evidential of that.
What are the concrete outcomes if the watchdog finds he was in breach? Is it a small fine, a minor headline one page 9 for one day, and then back to regularly scheduled programming? Or something more serious.
