Hey, my cockatiel bird seems to have bitten a small chunk of my passport back side only, im wondering if this will be a problem? All pages and front cover is good, only this last back hard cover is damaged.

The NFC is readable still after trying it with a phone NFC reader to read internal data with app called ReadID Me.

Edit: here is the criminal’s picture 😭

Edit 2: thanks to every one of you, i will get it replaced, and ill sue the bird for the damages 🄲

Humorous comments, informative comments, funny, sad and nostalgic stories from you all, thanks again!

    1. This should be fine, as long as safety features are still working/readable, i.e. water marks, holograms, electronics.

    2. If you want to take the chance, let me tell you that being refused to check-in at the front desk is not a nice experience.

It had taken a bit of water that slightly discolored my pic, I was still fully visible and identifiable, chip was working fine.

I had a similar damage on my EU/DE PASSPORT – it was rejected in trump country šŸ™

I was expecting a picture of the criminal 🦜
For me it looks fine, but to be sure you should ask the federal police or maybe the place where you got it

Replace it. Just for your information: Your passport is not your property, it is the property of the Federal Republic. The republic guarantees your safety abroad and this piece of plastic and paper is supposed to save you from a lot of trouble. I would not risk giving foreign authorities the opportunity to reject you or mistreat you because of this.

    6. I am always surprised why people ask the hive mind instead of talking to the experts (authorities in this case)….

This is SACHBESCHƄDIGUNG. You don’t own the passport. It belongs to the Federal Republic of Germany. You should be put in jail for damaging someone else’s property!!11!1!1 🤬 /s

    8. Within Europe I wouldn’t care. Probably no problem. I’ve flown with a passport that had been invalid for four years (New one was at an embassy for a Visa and I don’t own a photo ID because I’m like Scrooge McDuck) but outside of Schengen… I’d get a new one.

I am friends with a Bundespolizist and he mentioned once that damaged passport are to be replaced immediately.. He has worked in Passport control and officers are strict when it comes to damaged passports

    10. I washed my passport and most of the pages look like shit. But the chip works and I’ve been using it for years. Should be okay I’d try it on a low risk travel

Also don’t let These Istanbul Guys put Stickers on the back.

Some people use these kind of protective covers for their passport, with those you wouldn’t even see the damage. BUT in case someone would ever ask you to remove it and they would be bothered by the damage, it probably is the safer way to get it replaced. Cute birdie!

You might get rejected at the airport. The police at the border gave me a warning because some of the papers in my old passport had slight water damage.
