Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol has met with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and discussed the direction of bilateral economic cooperation.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Koo said he had dinner with He in Incheon the previous day, where the two exchanged views on recent economic issues, the situation in the Middle East, and ways to strengthen economic ties between South Korea and China.
Koo said the two sides shared the view that the countries should expand cooperation in advanced industries, supply chains, and digital and green transformation, while also accelerating follow-up negotiations on services and investment under the bilateral free trade agreement.
He added that the two governments plan to hold a bilateral economic ministers’ meeting in China before the end of the year to move the discussions forward.
The meeting between Koo and He took place ahead of He’s meeting with President Lee Jae Myung, who met separately with He and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent at the presidential office before their last-minute consultations in South Korea for the upcoming U.S.-China summit.
