Ahead of summer travel, the Northwest Arkansas National Airport now has a way for some travelers to get through security a little faster.Officials with the service called CLEAR say it uses facial recognition technology aimed at speeding up the security line process for some travelers at several airports, including XNA. “It allows travelers to simply walk through the checkpoint and verify their identity securely with their face,” said Kyle McLaughlin, the executive vice president of Travel and Aviation for CLEAR.McLaughlin said travelers who enroll with CLEAR can scan their faces at a kiosk instead of waiting for a manual ID check.“Our verification process takes about 5 seconds. Travelers can enroll once and then use it in any of the 172 TSA checkpoints that we operate in across the country, including here,” said McLaughlin. From there, travelers move on to the TSA screening process.Olivia Tyler with XNA said it comes just in time for the busy travel season. As the region grows, as the airport grows, the lines are just going to become a little bit longer,” said Tyler. “Our goal at XNA is to make the travel experience as smooth and efficient as possible.”According to CLEAR’s website, the service costs $209 a year. CLEAR officials said you need a government-issued photo ID to sign up.One frequent traveler said he’s used it at several different airports. “I come from a very busy airport. That is O’Hare, and I travel a lot,” said Jerry Torres. “Using CLEAR at TSA has made my life really, really easy.”CLEAR’s website says it does not sell users’ biometric data, and users can opt out at any time.
