The latest injury update on Ryan provides another encouraging sign for a Dodgers pitching staff that has carefully managed several recovering arms throughout the early portion of the season.
AM 570 LA Sports’ David Vassegh took to X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday to report that Ryan is set to start on Friday for the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets.
“River Ryan is scheduled to start his first game since April 11th on Friday for @OKC_comets
Ryan was on IL with a hamstring injury. #Dodgers”
Ryan last appeared in a game on April 11 before landing on the injured list six days later. The 27-year-old right-hander had logged only seven innings across two Triple-A starts before the setback temporarily interrupted his progress.

The Dodgers have remained cautious with Ryan’s development since his return from Tommy John surgery, making Friday’s scheduled outing another encouraging milestone in his progression back to full health.
The organization has closely monitored his workload since spring training, viewing the hard-throwing right-hander as another potential contributor capable of helping strengthen Los Angeles later this season.
The right-hander remains one of the organization’s most intriguing young arms, ranking as the Dodgers’ No. 6 overall prospect and top pitching prospect. Ryan’s fastball regularly sits between 95 and 97 mph, and he also features a deep six-pitch arsenal.
Ryan generated additional attention during spring training after posting a 1.86 ERA across 9 2/3 innings before opening the season with Oklahoma City. He also impressed during a brief major league sample in 2024, recording a 1.33 ERA with 18 strikeouts over four appearances before suffering the elbow injury.

For the Dodgers, Friday’s outing represents another positive step in Ryan’s recovery timeline. If he continues progressing smoothly, the club could eventually gain another impactful pitching option later this season.
