President Lee Jae Myung and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will hold a summit in the southeastern city of Andong on Tuesday.
Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said Friday in a written press briefing that the Japanese leader will visit Andong for two days starting Tuesday at the invitation of President Lee.
Andong is the South Korean leader’s hometown, and the spokesperson said Takaichi’s upcoming visit would reciprocate Lee’s trip to her hometown of Nara in January.
Following their summit, the leaders will make a joint press announcement and attend a dinner banquet, as well as an event to highlight their friendly ties.
Lee and Takaichi are expected to hold in-depth discussions on development in bilateral relations, seek to bolster practical cooperation on the economy and social matters, and share views on regional and international issues, including the crisis in the Middle East.
