Portugal is set for a sharp rise in temperatures from next week, with forecasts pointing to a return of hotter, early-summer conditions across most of the mainland.

From Wednesday, May 20, temperatures are expected to climb significantly, with highs approaching 30ºC in parts of central and southern Portugal, according to the Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute (IPMA).

Compared with the start of the week, temperatures are expected to rise by around 10 degrees in many areas of mainland Portugal.

In the north, including Porto, temperatures are forecast to reach around 25°C, while the south is expected to see the highest values, closer to 30°C.

Until then, conditions will remain mild, with temperatures hovering around 20°C, similar to what has been recorded in recent days.
