He won’t care. He doesn’t care about his own people, never mind anyone else’s.

Taiwan similar to Ukraine are in unenviable position. They know they need the military support the US offers, but how much of their own dignity do they have to lose to receive that support

Trump is a bit of a strange fella. One day he hates a country, the other day he claims the country is best friends.

If he’s not looking to travel far to fight in a war then what the fuck is he doing in Iran ?

      > Taiwan asserted its sovereignty Saturday after U.S. President Donald Trump warned against Taiwanese self-determination following the American leader’s two-day summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

My country was in a very similar circumstance so my heart will always go to Taiwan. We fought for freedom in a terrible political climate, but we never had warnings against sovereignty by a leader of the world’s biggest democracy. This is crazy…

As he has made clear a few dozen times now, the USA abandons its allies. We are unreliable.

We’ve abandoned Europe and Ukraine. We’ve screwed everyone who was getting oil-exports out of the Hormuz Strait. Our only allies are – Saudi, Israel, Russia. Canada and Japan and South Korea and Taiwan and all the ASEAN counties are likely to be ignored or sacrificed.

edit: The country that *cares* about the oil in the Middle East and is thus the natural ally of OPEC – more than the US – is China. China doesn’t have bases there or a competitive military – yet. That’s going to change in the long-term.

    7. Trump will sell out Taiwan faster than he sold out NATO and Ukraine, unless they outbid China with their bribes—watch him demand Taiwan Semiconductor stock…

He’s a vile human being. And that’s a generous statement making assumptions.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a president stand so divided with his constituents.

It’s astounding how trapped I feel in the land of the free.

Anyone who believes the United States is a decent country is beyond delusional at this point.

“Taiwan has no cards” – I can hear it coming.
Trump/Vance, the enemies of freedom and democracy.

What’s the upside for China if they invade Taiwan? Their world dominance in chip manufacturing is no doubt the jewel in the crown. But if they piss off Taiwan enough it may decide that if they can’t have that jewel then China can’t have it either and they could destroy these factories. This will have a catastophic effect on many industries and cause huge economic damage worldwide and take maybe more than a decade to recover from. The rest of the world will HATE China for having done this and it will do enormeous damage to China’s relationship with many other countries. The threat of Taiwan actually doing this should be a pretty effective deterrent.

Trump folded like a cheap MAGA suit to Xi. Weakest President in US history and it ain’t even close.

    14. From the statement linked in the article:

      > The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the US, including President Trump, has repeatedly reiterated that its consistent stance on Taiwan policy remains unchanged.

      Politico is playing games.

I guess the Chinese realized that simply fluffing Trump’s ego + throwing in a few personal financial incentives gets you pretty far in terms of advancing your foreign policy goals.

I thought tariffs and Iran would be his biggest mistakes. If this happens under his watch, this is a speed run to the end of the American empire.

Time to buy shorts in SMH ffs

    17. Like Ukraine, Venezuela, Iran, and Cuba. Sovereign and independent countries.

We are headed in a bad direction folks.

    18. livehearwish on

Trump doesn’t care or understand the market implications of China taking over the silicon market. Trump opened the door wide for China after his action and talks about Venezuela, Cuba, Greenland and Canada which are all Sovereign and independent too.
