In a press conference, the club’s coach admitted: “Yes, I had a renewal offer from Benfica on Wednesday [13 May], an offer that was given to my agent, who didn’t want to see it, didn’t want to know about it, didn’t want to analyse it, and I will only do so from Sunday [17 May] onwards. I would say Sunday.”

He also said he had not heard from Real Madrid. “Regarding Real Madrid, they never told me there was an offer. If they had, I would have said the same,” Mourinho said about his conversation with Jorge Mendes, who only mentioned Benfica’s offer.

Mourinho no longer guarantees he will not say no to Benfica. When asked if he would refuse the club now, he replied: “I don’t know.”

He also admitted feeling sad about saying goodbye during the last training session. “I love working with them and have fun. Since today is the season’s last session, saying goodbye will be emotional,” he said.

In this final match of the season, Benfica is “obliged” to win, as this victory is the only way to overtake their rival in the fight for second place, which grants access to the millions in Champions League prize money.
