Who are the companies that profited the most from electricity trading in North Macedonia?

According to data for 2025, the Greek company Protergia Energy leads the list as the most powerful trader in the free electricity market in Macedonia, achieving a record profit of 6.713.250 euros. This success of the Mytilineos group company comes in addition to their role as the main supplier of coal for the needs of ESM’s thermal power plants in Bitola, writes the Faktor portal.
In second place is MVM Partner (part of the Hungarian state holding) with 2.623.779 euros, while EVN Elektrodistribuimi ranks third with a profit of 1.536.661 euros.
Below is the full list of the 10 companies with the highest profits in this sector:
Protergia Energy (Greece): €6.713.250
MVM Partner (Hungary): €2.623.779
EVN Elektrodistribuimi (Austria/Macedonia): €1.536.661
Sole 24 (Albania): €900.814
ESM Prodazba (Macedonia – State): €814.820
Infinitive Power (Greece): €632.470
Future Energy Trading (Kosovo): €509.834
ETMT Energy (Albania): €428.302
RES – Renewable Energy Supply (Bulgaria): €355.626

From this ranking, it is noticeable that the dominance remains with foreign companies, where only two of the ten most profitable companies are domestic (ESM Prodazba and one private company). Companies such as Sole 24 and ETMT Energy play a key role by supplying state institutions such as ESM and MEPSO during periods of shortages or to cover network losses.
