Berkay B., one of the defendants of the Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi murder committed on January 24, 2025 in Kadıköy, Istanbul, committed a new crime in the Maltepe Children and Youth Closed Penitentiary Institution, where he was detained. The 16-year-old suspect, who was put in a ring vehicle to be transferred to Erenköy Psychiatric and Neurological Diseases Hospital, turned the transportation vehicle into a battlefield after an argument with gendarmerie officers.

According to the indictment prepared by the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, the incident started with Berkay B. demanding a cigarette from the gendarmerie personnel. The suspect, whose request was rejected, resisted for a long time not to get into the ring vehicle. Berkay B. kicked the doors of the vehicle, removed the protection bar inside the vehicle, hit the security camera several times and shattered it. The expert report registered the severe damage inside the vehicle.

The words made by Berkay B., who insulted and threatened the gendarmerie officers during the incident, were blood-curdling. The suspect, "Don’t confuse me with the theft convicts, I’m on trial for murder. I’ll damage the camera in the ring" It was included in the indictment that he boasted about the murder he committed. It was noted that the suspect, who resisted the gendarmes on duty, tried every way to prevent the transfer.

Request for imprisonment up to 6 years and 10 months

An indictment was filed against Berkay B., who confessed to the crime of breaking the camera in his statement but denied the allegations of insult, for the crimes of ‘Insult’, ‘Resisting Not to Perform the Duty’ and ‘Damaging Public Property’. The file of the suspect, who was asked to be imprisoned from 1 year and 11 months to 6 years and 10 months, was sent to the Anatolian Children’s Court for evaluation.
