Labor and management at Samsung Electronics are set to continue the last-ditch mediated talks on performance-based bonuses for the second day on Tuesday, with just two days left until the union’s planned strike.

The two sides will return to mediation at the National Labor Relations Commission in the administrative city of Sejong starting 10 a.m., after the commission listened to the positions of both sides and sought to narrow their differences the previous day.

The independent administrative agency is tasked to put forth a final mediation proposal, which would become valid once accepted and signed by labor and management.

In a national address Sunday, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok said the government would pursue all possible measures, including emergency arbitration, if the union were to forward with the strike, and stressed that the upcoming talks may be the last chance to avert it.

Unionized workers have said they will strike from Thursday to June 7 unless management agrees to set bonuses at 15 percent of operating profit, abolish the payout cap and standardize the bonus system.
