I have been working on painting some belgian officers for a WW2 miniatures game. I need some help coming up with names for these two gentleman. As a non-belgain myself, any suggestions for names that would’ve been common for that era would be greatly appreciated.

    1. * Cyriel/Cyrille
      * Emiel/Emille
      * Jozef/Joseph “Jef” for short
      * Albert
      * Maurice
      * Eduard “Eddy”
      * Leopold “Leo”
      * Peter/Pierre
      * Jacob/Jacques
      * Gustaaf/Gustaph “Staf”
      * Jan/Jean
      * Lodewijk/Louis

      Lots of traditional names, biblical etc.
      Spelling wise you usually have Dutch and French variants. You could look at other names royals might use too, there’s probably a French or Dutch variant. (John/Jean/Jan/Juan….)

      Double barrel names weren’t uncommon, Jean-* especially, Jean-Pierre,  Jean-Paul…

      Some names from Brigade Piron, the free Belgian brigade.

    2. The only thing i can say is welcome with the belgian army for bolt action,i love these models alot,specialy the chasseurs🤘
      But you can name your officers raymond or louis😁

    3. French names would probably be best suited, since officers were part of the elite, which would usually only speak French.
      Up to the point that the majority Dutch speaking soldiers couldn’t understand their own officers.

      Eduard Vereecke and Maurice Van Poucke; those make it very ambiguous as to which part of the country they are from.

      But, as someone else suggested, name one Xavier Waterslaeghers. It’s the name of a beloved character in a TV series who’s in the army. The actor portraining him passed away in 2020.

      Is this miniature game called Bolt Action by any chance?
