ERWIN, Tenn. (WVLT) – A Japanese company that manufactures precision balls and rollers is closing its facility in Erwin.

    Tsubaki Nakashima filed a WARN notice with the state Thursday. The company posted a notice on its website, stating its board of directors made the decision at its meeting earlier this week as part of its 2025-29 business plan.

    The company said steel balls manufactured at the site will be transferred to other plants in the U.S. and India and production of the rollers will be shifted to the company’s Bosnia plant.

    The closure will be between July 31 and Dec. 18 and will affect 110 workers, according to the WARN notice.

    In a statement, the company said it is offering transition support programs and resources to affected employees. The company’s full statement is below.

    Tsubaki Nakashima has made the difficult decision to close its Erwin, Tennessee, facility in the United States.

    This decision aligns with the strategic priorities outlined in the company’s Mid-Term Business Plan and supports ongoing efforts to strengthen the business, optimize operations, and advance long-term sustainability across our global network.

    We recognize the impact this decision will have on our employees, their families, and the local community. The Erwin team has made meaningful contributions to the company over the years, and we appreciate their dedication. We are committed to supporting employees throughout this transition and will continue providing communication, transition support programs, and resources to assist those affected.

    Tsubaki Nakashima remains fully committed to serving its customers without disruption. Production will be gradually transferred to other facilities within our global manufacturing network to ensure continuity of supply and service.
