The labor ministry has vowed full support for Samsung Electronics’ labor and management to settle differences through voluntary negotiations to avert a massive general strike on Thursday.
Ministry spokesperson Hong Kyung-ui told reporters on Wednesday that there is still time left until the planned strike, stressing that producing a solution through dialogue between related parties is the dominant principle.
Asked about the possibility of the government invoking its emergency arbitration power, Hong said it is too early to speak on that, reiterating there is still time for labor and management to talk.
Hong said the government will mobilize all means possible to encourage voluntary negotiations.
The spokesperson added that Labor Minister Kim Young-hoon is continuously communicating with National Labor Relations Commission Chairman Park Soo-geun, who served as mediator in the government-mediated negotiations, regarding the situation.
