N. Korea's Naegohyang Beats S. Korea's Suwon FC in AFC Women's Champions Semifinal

    North Korea’s Naegohyang Women’s FC defeated South Korea’s Suwon FC Women 2-1 in the semifinals of the Asian Football Confederation Women’s Champions League.

    In the match held at Suwon Stadium in Suwon, South Korea amid heavy downpours on Wednesday, Suwon FC took a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute with a goal by Japanese forward Haruhi Suzuki.

    Six minutes later, Naegohyang’s Choe Kum-ok scored a header from a free kick to tie the match.  

    In the 67th minute, the North’s captain Kim Kyong-yong secured the 2-1 victory with another clinical header.

    Suwon FC’s midfielder Ji So-yun misfired a penalty in the 79th minute. 

    With the victory in the highly anticipated match between the two Koreas, the North Korean team advanced to the final of the top Asian club tournament against Tokyo Verdy Beleza of Japan. 

    The match will be held on Saturday in Suwon.
