Samsung Electronics’ largest labor union has decided to hold off on the general strike that was set to begin Thursday and put a tentative labor-management agreement to a membership vote.

The union notified members Wednesday night that the general strike scheduled for Thursday through June 7 is postponed until further notice.

Talks had collapsed earlier in the day on Wednesday, prompting Labor Minister Kim Young-hoon to step in and offer to mediate.

A new session began around 4:25 p.m. at the Gyeonggi District Employment and Labor Office, and the two sides appear to have reached a last-minute deal roughly an hour before the strike was set to begin.

Members were also informed that they will participate in a ratification vote on the tentative 2026 wage agreement, running from 9 a.m. May 23 through 10 a.m. May 28.
