As a BC resident and BCNDP voter, good.
I think Eby has picked the wrong fight here, Carney is extremely popular, BC needs to be on the same page as the federal government
Let’s get things moving as fast as possible here in BC and work together, don’t worry about Danielle Smith and her political fights, let’s focus on how BC and Canada can work together
then maybe you should work on some actually forward-thinking ideas instead of being a lazy POS and just pumping oil. What a complete disappointment after he seemed like a pragmatic mature leader. Pathetic
If he wasn’t a debt-loving keyensian SOB, I’d high five him.
With the speed at which we move by the time they are ready to help solve the energy crisis it will be done and over with.
Words are nice but lets see some action isntead of endless MOUs and go nowhere promises.
At least Carney made his stance.
Instead of Trudeau who was against pipeline, never voiced his support on TMX, let the BC/Alberta fued grew out of control until the Fed had to bail them out.
Need more CANDU attitude
>If development gets bogged down in B.C., PM says his government will be ‘spending more time elsewhere’
Seems to me Carney feels indifferent whether anything actually gets accomplished or not.
And the only answer is more taxes for you!!!
We just need a deal where if you are a province that blocks a pipeline like this, we just add the GDP it would have produced into your calculation for the purpose of equalization.
Ie if BC blocks an Alberta pipeline that would have produced 30B in GDP, we use that in BC’s calculations.
Then the provinces would actually have a larger incentive to not block this stuff for other provinces
The oil flows west and south we need energy east and to the port of Churchill.
Carney never cared much for Liberal MP’s in BC. They didn’t even know he was in BC, they woke up and saw a news conference and learned that way. Sneaky Carney is an oligarch
need more solar and renewables. We are leaders in the world for Hydrogen fuel cell technology. Let’s not squander this moment.
I like Carney’s talking point. He knows Alberta and BC. BC will not agree to a northern pipeline but will be open to expanding the current pipeline to the lower mainland.
We have an oil tanker restriction on our north coast for a reason.
Canada has two options here. Number one is to get in on global decarbonization at the ground level, helping keep the climate crisis from spiraling out of control while profiting off it ourselves and keeping ourselves competitive in 21st century technologies. Number two is to keep doubling down on 20th century fossil fuels, contributing to the climate crisis that’s already costing us billions per year and threatening global food production while ceding unchecked dominance in renewables and electrified transit to China. Carney seems to prefer option two.
BC’s NDP and First Nations are foaming at the mouth to extinguish any hopes of developing in this province.
Carney might as well focus on the east, this will be fruitless unfortunately.
David eby is such a fool.
Hydro in Quebec/Labrador? That seems like a good idea too.
Eby is slowing the entire country and making us all poorer. He is a dangerous ideologue.
Eby, can’t decide if he’s a pragmatist or a principle first leader, with a party that is principles first.
I voted for him but I’m disappointed with how he (and his party) are navigating federal politics. And BC politics.
Especially because the BC Cons are fucking clowns and we don’t have a viable alternative.
BC has a lot of voters whoa re environmentally motivated, and that puts the BC premier at odds with Alberta and the current federal government under Carney.
If Eby allows the pipeline without the kind of concessions that will matter to BC voters (and at least as important,to the voting members of his party), he will get run out of office.
But the flip side is that Carney and Smith are going to apply as much pressure to make this happen as they can bring to bear.
END COMMUNICATION
Another crisis in Canada’s hands, let’s save the world energy crisis. The “must” part is priceless. 😂😂😂
Why only oil exports from the west, why can’t there be giant export terminal in Nova Scotia or something
Not sure I understand Eby’s argument about Alberta getting special treatment. BC has several major projects on the go, does it not?
Its not about ideologies, its about proven physical realities that make another pipeline a terrible idea. We just went through this with TMX, so we know it for a fact. We are not talking about a flat empty grassland here.
It took $34 billion, 38,000 tradespeople, NEB approval, 1,200 permits, 130 indigenous communities, and 157 required conditions. And now it isn’t even paying off it’s own debt!
It doesn’t take a Harvard Oxford economist to realize that Eby is correct and our tax dollars must be spent elsewhere.
Good. Do that.
Fear mongering and hype man back at it again. Hook, line, and sinker for him is to find a problem then make a speech patronizing people how he is making the solution
We should have started to move away from fossil fuels decades ago. There needs to be more of a focus on nuclear and renewables.
We need more infrastructure ourselves to unlock our resources..
Time to show some balls and tell BC, Qebc. and indigenous to stop whining or they get cut off.
i think the PM has the right idea. Full tilt and approve every source of power. Hydro in QC, offshore wind in NS, oil pipelines for AB, encourage private solar on roofs and nuclear for everywhere else. Canada can be an energy superpower.
A completely avoidable energy crisis that wouldn’t exist if countries party to the 1948 Convention had honoured their legal duty to act when initially triggered.
Energy crisis? Surely forcing a bunch of workers into the office every day is setting a good example.
Energy crisis! Let’s make federal workers drive in needlessly to work everyday!
Why can’t we start with popular and painless solutions?
How about send public servants to WFH where possible? Greenhouse gases from commuting will drop a lot
I think people are looking at this with a domestic viewpoint while Carney is looking at it in an international viewpoint.
Canada can and should profit from this
Do we really have to solve all world problems?
We should add more AI data centres
🤦♂️
Hard to concentrate on getting shit done when you have a treasonous premier in the province next to us talking about ignoring the rule of law.
We do we need more reactors if birth rates are off a cliff? Is there an expectation of a 100M people in canada still?
Sounds like AB needs to give BC a share of their royalties generated to sweeten the deal.
Why tf are we so afraid of Nuclear? It has the same or similar feasibility timelines as pipelines, we have tons of open land in the North and the Prairies.. AB wants to be an energy powerhouse? Great, lets throw down nuclear plants and revitalize old coal mining communities with new infrastructure.
Wtf is the problem
