North Macedonia’s MFA delivers verbal demarche to Albanian Embassy

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia has officially confirmed to “Euronews Albania” that today it has summoned the Albanian Ambassador to Skopje, Denion Meidani, regarding his recent public statements.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia announced that the ambassador did not participate in the meeting, but his deputy.
“A verbal demarche has been delivered regarding the ambassador’s inappropriate public statements during the recent period, which move on the border between ordinary and legitimate diplomatic communication and possible interference in the internal affairs of the country of accreditation,” the official statement of the North Macedonian Foreign Ministry reads.
The Macedonian MFA’s reaction comes after a series of public statements by the Albanian ambassador, in defense of Albanian students in the Republic of Macedonia who are seeking to take the jurisprudence exam in Albanian, which have been described by the Republic of Macedonia’s MFA as interference in the internal affairs of the state.
Meanwhile, the Albanian side, according to “Euronews”, expressed concern at the meeting about the inappropriate treatment of around 40 Albanian students who were on the bus that left Tirana to participate in the Albanian student protest in Skopje.
