My Great Uncle Larry had a wife in Korea(?) whom he seemed to love and cherish deeply. They had a child together, but he was not permitted to bring either of them back to the United States with him. I simply want to try to locate her child…I do not expect that she herself is still alive today. Thank you so much for any and all help!!

I understand that abandonment of Korean women back then, and probably even now with American troops still stationed over there, is a problem and it disgusting. If I could have taken a picture of every single piece he kept from them, Id be able to show you that wasn't the case in his situation. Unfortunately I didn't, and because of that I can't prove to you he wasn't a POS. But he didn't abandon them and he kept everything from them, and died when he got home. I just want to try and help find our lost family is all.
I have no intention on defending anyone abandoning their family. Especially not like this. I apologize for not being a little more clear. I'm the only one in my family learning about this, everyone else knew. I'm the one who took the initiative to find them. I personally wish the rest of my family would have tried sooner, as it was never a family secret or anything. But I can only do what I can now. Thanks guys.

On Facebook there’s a group called “Koreans Kinship and reuniting with DNA” that’s pretty helpful and active
Could you tell me when and where(which city in Korea) they married? If it was before the Korean War, she and her child could be trapped in North Korea.

The binder in the corner of the first pic seems to say “KumKang.” Could it be the name of a business near where your great uncle was stationed?
There’s also a very high possibility the child was given up for adoption once the father left them. They wouldn’t be adopted in Korea, so it’s possible they were raised in EU or US.
Have you done dna tests? You can upload the raw data to gedmatch. I found some lost cousins that way.

You realize that GIs did this all over when they fought in pacific theatre, Vietnam, the Philippines, Korea etc. hell some war movies making fun of that shit. Dudes having second families, and when it’s time up, they didn’t bring them back.
My family has this same situation with my grandfather’s brother. Unfortunately the photo of him with the woman is lost. And he himself passed away in 1969. I hit a dead end in my search because I don’t know her Korean name. Good luck in your search!
