KOSPI Soars over 8% Thursday after Samsung Wage Deal

    The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index spiked 606-point-64 points, or eight-point-42 percent, on Thursday to close at seven-thousand-815-point-59.

    The surge came after Samsung Electronics’ largest labor union reached an unprecedented deal with the company’s management, averting a strike scheduled for Thursday.

    The company’s stock price closed at 299-thousand-500 won, up eight-point-51 percent from the previous session.

    The tech-heavy KOSDAQ gained 49-point-nine points, or four-point-73 percent, to close at one-thousand-105-point-97.

    The South Korean won strengthened against the U.S. dollar by zero-point-seven won, trading at one-thousand-506-point-one won per dollar as of 3:30 p.m.
