    1. The question:

      > Should Alberta remain a province of Canada or should the Government of Alberta commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada?

So….its a referendum on whether or not a referendum will happen, I guess?

    2. TokaidoSpeed on

lol this whole presser is just her being hostage to the separatist portion of the party

certainly this won’t alienate us even further from the rest of Canadians and look like jackasses regardless of results…

    3. A meeting for a meeting, on a vote, for other meetings, with more meetings planned…

    4. Little-Chemical5006 on

Damn someone said they are gonna announce “Do we need a referendum for our referendum?” earlier and theyre right lol.

      What a waste of money

    5. A referendum to have another referendum. Oh boy. The “forever Canada” petition has seemingly backfired, as Smith also reiterated the “700k Albertans” want a vote on this claim.

      >The question Albertans will be asked in the upcoming referendum is: “Should Alberta remain a province of Canada or should the Government of Alberta commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada?”

Of course she couldn’t help but bring the “Trudeau-Singh government” up and went on a lengthy tirade about how Trudeau was anti-Canada. And did a full recap reiterating all the federal laws she claims credit for changing. She spent more time talking about this than the actual referendum in the address, so far. ffs.

A referendum on whether to have a referendum is not only dumb, but can drag this whole thing out and radicalize even more harebrained people.

Facebook is going to get even worse somehow.

    7. StatisticianBoth3480 on

How about should we kick these whining traitors out of the country?

    8. DavidsonWrath on

Well I think Smith is done. This will piss off both sides and possibly tear the UCP apart.

    9. Top_Use4144 on

I am so sick of this. Just move somewhere else. There is enough crap going on right now

    10. LowComfortable5676 on

So its just a little bone for the separation crew but there’s clearly no actual political will for it.

    11. FalseZookeepergame15 on

This whole thing is ridiculous and make the UCP look hostage to separatists. Smith could end this by squashing it and done.

    12. What a waste of money to carry out American billionaires game of divide and conquer! Wake up Albertans!

    13. Street_Anon on

So make an issue, the vast majority don’t even care about and isn’t an issue? What could go wrong?

    14. Should we stay in Canada or should we have a binding referendum on should we stay in Canada.

What a giant waste of money to have a referendum on having a referendum and raise the flag of uncertainty over provincial business and reputation.

    15. prophetofgreed on

The UCP and the people who vote for them are clowns. A deeply unserious party and the people who match it.

    16. if its yes/no question, are Albertans voting yes to remain a province or yes to begin the process of having a referendum?

    17. Electroflare5555 on

This is a direct violation of the Clarity Act and will overturned fairly quickly

    18. doomscrolling_tiktok on

So … they are really asking should they divert millions of our tax dollars for multiple years to hire consultants with questionable qualifications, create staff positions to support new blue ribbon panels with uncapped budgets for per diems, entertainment, box seats and travel and road shows, pay for logos, business cards, letterhead and webdesign, pay people to make short films and YouTube content, plus oodles of whatnots and etc.’s. Make Government Big Again. She really misses that War Room, eh

    19. GoblinDiplomat on

Like, that *has* to end her political career right? It is compete nonsense that will piss off *everyone.*

    20. toiletcleaner999 on

For what this bullshit is costing, she could have built new hospital, hired more drs and nurses!!

    21. Smudgeontheglass on

This seems like a waste. A large portion of Albertans signed a petition that was to be forever Canadian.

    22. Kevinthecarpenter on

Unless I’ve missed something and all of these separatists are in fact band members of Albertan first nations; this whole seperatism thing may be a spectacular waste of time and money.

    23. This is going down the Quebec route. “1980 Referendum Voters were asked to grant the government a mandate to negotiate a “sovereignty-association” economic deal with Canada, promising that no outright political status change would happen without a second vote.”

So it’s wasn’t even about becoming independent, it was about allowing the Quebec government to negotiate a new relationship. That relationship would be ratified by second referendum

    24. A referendum on if we should have a referendum at some undefined future point.

The separatists will not like this and try to take over the UCP and remove her as quickly as possible.

I wonder if a snap election is in our future?

    25. DanfromCalgary on

Asking a question that will have zero impact on the steps they will take next

    26. Q1. “Should Alberta remain a province of Canada or should the Government of Alberta commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada?”

      Yes or No?

Q2. “Is ‘A’ the frist letter of the English alphabet or is ‘A’ not the first letter of the English alphabet?”

      Yes or No?

In both cases above ‘Yes’ is the only correct answer – but answering ‘Yes’ tells you nothing beyond that you are able to reason.

I have never been so embarrassed in my fellow citizens, this shouldn’t be even entertained anymore.

Morons are asked to decide if morons should decide to follow the grand moron through into the moronic fog of uncertainty.
