Somalia, Türkiye discuss infrastructure cooperation in Ankara

Ankara (HOL) — Somali Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing Minister Ayub Ismail Yusuf met Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu in Ankara on Thursday to discuss expanding cooperation on roads, housing and urban development.

The meeting, held at Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, brought together senior officials, engineers and technical advisers from both countries.

The talks focused on strengthening infrastructure cooperation, accelerating Somalia’s reconstruction agenda, expanding modern housing programs and improving urban planning and construction quality control.

Uraloglu reaffirmed Turkey’s long-term support for Somalia’s reconstruction and development, particularly in transport infrastructure and technical capacity-building.

Yusuf said Somalia hoped to benefit from Turkey’s engineering expertise, institutional knowledge and experience managing major infrastructure projects.

The Somali minister proposed specialized training programs for Somali engineers and public works staff, saying local technical capacity will be essential as the country expands investment in roads, housing and urban infrastructure.

After the meeting, Yusuf toured several Turkish government facilities linked to transport planning and infrastructure management. He was received by the director general of Turkey’s State Highways Authority, who briefed him on the management of national road corridors and large-scale highway systems.

Yusuf also inspected highway projects developed through public-private partnerships, a model in which private companies finance, build and maintain public roads while recovering costs through electronic toll systems.

The Somali delegation also visited a state vehicle maintenance and fleet management facility to study logistics systems, equipment management and asset lifecycle procedures.

Turkey remains one of Somalia’s closest development partners, with investments in infrastructure, education, health and security cooperation.
