“Cases are being recorded where manipulated or artificial intelligence-generated images are being published of allegedly non-Lithuanian combat drones flying over our territory or of crash sites,” the NKVC said in a statement.

It said false claims were also circulating denying reports of drones violating Lithuanian airspace, alongside conspiracy theories about alleged foreign provocations.

The centre said much of the disinformation was likely produced outside Lithuania with the aim of influencing public opinion.

“False, manipulated or decontextualised information can increase public panic, discredit official communication and disrupt the work of institutions. It is likely that the purpose of such information activity is to cause confusion, mistrust and destabilise the situation,” it said.

The NKVC urged the public to remain vigilant, critically assess online information, avoid sharing unverified reports and rely only on official sources.
