    1. I met a young teenage boy while visiting Shirakawa Go whose parents were from The Philippines but he could not speak English or Tagalog, just Japanese. He was working as a server in a small restaurant. I guess he’ll be caught up in this — all the best to all involved.

Why they expect a xenophobic country to know what is humane and inhumane?

If he and his family are 100% Indian, which makes me wonder—why didn’t he pass down Indian language, culture, or traditions to his child?

While this is horrible, why the father didn’t get permanent residency or naturalization is beyond me. 30 years in Japan.

Was he simply not able to get PR? Didn’t meet the conditions? If yes, then something is broken with that system

    5. Japan: “integrate or get out”

Also Japan: “actually just get out anyway”

    6. Japan politix; well thought-out as usual. Forward thinking.. flawless.. yup..

30 years but not a PR? It seems very unusual case. Could someone please elaborate more about the news? Did he explain why 30 years in jp and he did not apply for a PR? Usually it is more than enough to get a PR . 30 years, pay taxes, following rules etc. Unless the person with a criminal record then it is impossible .

This is genuinely awful. I don’t know why they don’t have PR, but I feel like there should be some sort of grace extended in these situations. They’ve been here for so long, if they’ve been paying taxes and doing everything right, there’s no reason to deport them

Use and discard 😭😭😭😭😭 that asshole lovers favourite countries 😂😂😂😂

    10. They have integrated into Japanese society, and yet are still being deported?

      Conservatism is a mental illness

The words used are “go back” but in actuality it means “go away”

    12. This sucks. But let’s be honest. This is definitely not unique to Japan. I would say my country (Sweden) is even worse when it comes to this.

    13. Didn’t they do this to a Filipino kid born and raised in Japan a few years ago??

    14. Outrageous_Law_5525 on

Conservatives are mentally ill and evil, everywhere. Not a spec of humanity. Just hate. So gross

Do the same thing to japanese people/immigrants who are in foreign countries and watch the uproar. Human rights violation, asian hate and bla bla

      [Bring on the downvotes, weebs]

    16. In order to apply PR or Naturalization, need at least 3-5 years valid visa. Maybe they didn’t get to have a chance to obtain more than a year valid visa. Even for me I have lived more than 5 years but I still haven’t got more than a year work visa every renewal. So don’t judge too quickly about why they don’t apply for PR or Naturalization.

I keep seeing different stories for this same guy. He’s been there 30 years so why hasn’t he got residency or naturised? Honestly that’s entirely on him. Even if he had tried and got rejected a few times then surely that should have given him some warning that he might not be able to stay indefinitely?

I also read the guy was a scammer bringing people in under false pretences among other things and exactly the type of person the new policy is trying to oust.

Japan and Middle East is a NO as they don’t give you residency so easy

The Japanese were a force to reckon in tech in 1980’s and now ? Just compare them to China they’ll look like a third world country reliant on Fax Machines, Open Electricity Wires on poles and a collapsing population, stagnant innovation. Instead of diagnosing the main issues to maintain the fading glory, their politicians have decided to become the Temu versions of Donald Trump, in the longer run this will be nothing but an economic suicide for Japan.

30 years and still no PR. Is there something in between that you are not telling us?

    21. AccomplishedBag1038 on

Why doesn’t bro just get a job then and apply for work visa? If he’s been there 30 years he will know language and customs and should be able to find some kind of job that will sponsor

    22. derrickrg89 on

The child born in japan should be a Japanese? I think only the parent is force to return. Then again 30 years and not getting pr or citizenship is also a good reason to pre planning for that return.

    23. Accomplished-Eye9542 on

What’s weird is all the resources going to deport people like this when their streets are covered with anti-social criminals from third world countries. Go down the wrong street in Tokyo and you’ll forget this is a Japanese majority country.

This has got to be the first foreign born Indian I’ve ever heard to not be able to speak an Indian language. And I probably known thousands personally from my time studying in California and working in silicon valley lol
