This week starts off with a public holiday (which many Danes will spend running), with a royal birthday and cultural festivals later in the week.
Here’s our roundup of everything happening in Denmark next week.
Monday, May 25th
Pinse
Pinse, known as Pentecost or Whitsun in English, is a bank holiday much loved by the Danes, often used to enjoy the beautiful late-spring weather with friends and family. Plan ahead, as most shops and supermarkets will be closed.
Although some Danes will look forward to lazy afternoons on the sun lounger, others are getting ready for this year’s Royal Run. Planned by the Royal Family, this run takes place every year on Pinse Monday in different cities around Denmark. This year the one mile, 5km and 10km runs take place in Ringkøbing, Randers, Middelfart, Helsingør and Copenhagen. Expect Royal guest appearances by the King and his family, as well as traffic disruptions across these five cities.
Tuesday, May 26th
King Frederiks birthday
King Frederik turns 58 on Tuesday, and as is tradition, he and his family will appear on the balcony of Frederik VIII’s Palæ in Amalienborg to greet well wishers. A larger, and more festive changing of the guard will begin at 11.50, with the King’s guard clad in special red uniforms.
Conan Gray
Conan Gray’s Wishbone Tour makes its way to Denmark alongside special guest, Esha Tewari. The American pop star has played sold out shows across the United States, with songs from his album Wishbone, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart.
