One thing is a constant with all the Russians – they attack somebody and when they get hit back, they play “the victim”. That includes interviews with Russian prisoners, where they say that they were gathering to storm the Ukrainians, but “those bad Ukrainians threw grenades at us while we were not doing anything bad”, “but I didn’t have a weapon in my hand – those bad Ukrainians…”.

All their talking points are collapsing at once here:
* The Duma-member talks about how it will significantly shift if Europe is fully dragged into the war, then it will be a potential existential threat for Russia (previously they have claimed they are fighting against all of NATO – and winning – all by themselves)
* It is a war (no talk about SMO)
* We are advancing on the strategic level even if it seems like tactical losses
* If we really get threatened we will get serious and THEN we will win!
* We need political decisions to get real

Soldiers need reassurances, not wishful thinking. At some point the morale gets sufficiently low and the will to fight diminishes. Then not even Chechens in the rear can stop what happens.
