      From the article:

This ranking, produced by [*US News*](https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/rankings), is based on some pretty thorough analysis.
The 100 countries assessed (which had to meet benchmark criteria such as a place in the top 125 of the Human Development Index and the same for its GDP) are put under the microscope for a shedload of factors, which broadly culminate in eight different categories.

They are: health, civic health, culture and tourism, economic development, governance, infrastructure, natural environment and opportunity.

    2. 1. Switzerland

      4. Germany
      5. Netherlands
      6. Norway
      7. United Kingdom
      8. Finland
      9. Luxembourg
      10. Austria

The title is clickbait as hell. The top 10 countries on the US News list are all in Europe, not the entire list.

It is genuinely hard to argue with Switzerland or Denmark taking the top spots, they really do have an incredible quality of life. But it is always interesting how these Western-centric lists completely ignore the massive strides being made in Central and Eastern Europe right now.

Countries like Poland, Estonia, and Czechia have transformed their digital infrastructure, civic safety, and economic development at a speed that puts half of this top 10 list to shame. If this index actually weighed “forward momentum” and technological growth instead of just generational wealth, the rankings would look a lot more diverse. Still, a massive win for the European model overall!

I wonder if any us states would be on the list if they didn’t do the country as a whole
