Ahead by 9.7sec after winning stage 11, Vaher was 9.9 kilometres into the 13.05-kilometre Ängebäckstorp stage, SS12, when he suffered a high-speed spin into trees.
Vaher and co-driver Rait Jansen were uninjured but front and rear contact left their Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 with damage although were eventually able to finish the stage.
International rally driver and respected driver coach Tom Cave, Rally.TV’s expert commentator this weekend, said: “It was a long left-hander and he was probably five kilometres too quick on the entry and he just lost the rear of the car. He tried to rotate it round but, unfortunately, there was a tree, which Jaspar’s car hit. Disappointing to see because he’s been really impressive this weekend.”
Teemu Suninen now leads the high-speed gravel event by 4.8sec ahead of Mikko Heikkilä with four stages remaining.
