Got robbed last night (picked up a non essential good from a shelf and paid its clearly marked price)

You vote with your wallet, prices won’t change unless purchasing does

Pretty standard at most venues now unfortunately. The mark ups are insane. 4 pack is currently $22 at Dan Murphy’s

    4. I went to Marvel Stadium a few weeks ago and asked for a Carlton beer.
I assumed he was going to pour it from the tap he was standing next to. But no, it was a mid strength can for 13.80 or whatever and he had the can opener under the ring and I said, yeah Nuh, and walked away.

    5. The drink when you buy it in Dan Murphys is still $6-8 each and over 50% of it is tax. Drinks that taste nicer than beer are taxed more than double that of beer due to “alcopops” tax. Which frankly is a disgrace in this day and age because so many drinks fall under this banner. People just want a nice tasting drink and get punched for it

That’s the same price for a six pack of Mike’s hard lemonade in the US. We have the third highest alcohol excise tax in the world, but we can’t tax LPG exports or ban gambling ads… Lobbyists run this country. Does matter which party.

Went to a pub for lunch the other day. Tap beer was $14/$17 for a schooner/pint, espresso martini was $16. I swear ten years ago a cocktail was three times the price of a beer. Anyway, the martini paired beautifully with my steak sanga.

    8. One of the big issues with these prices is people keeping buying when it costs that much, if we just didn’t buy it they couldn’t keep abusing the price

    9. I went to the Flying Turtle vending machine (which I call the random drink maker) at the Arena which was far better value.

Pretty standard pricing at venues these days. Was the same at Palais last night and John Cain a couple weeks ago. This is the new norm for captured audiences.

No wonder illegal alcohol is making it’s way around and in bottle shops, it going to end out the next being the tabaco “war”

And we wonder why there’s (what the media calls) “hospitality wars”. Something has got to give.

    13. Stadium/festival pricing has always been absurd. They were charging $16.50 for similar at the last festival I went to.

At Rod Laver Arena and for a high % can I’m not surprised these are like club prices

    15. If we just gave up the smashed avo on toast we would be able to afford to drink instead

I just bring in a booze pouch these days depending on the event.. it’s gotten that ridiculous

Got burned paying $16 for one of these at the Forum the other night.. I didn’t think to ask for the price and the bartender had already cracked the can by the time the amount showed up on the eftpos.

    18. Went to a pub on Thursday and I’ve decided I cannot afford to drink out anymore. 2 pints of Guinness for my mate and I was $30 and a pint of IPA $22. I paid it because I was there but decided it would be my last for a long time. If going to the pub requires me to save up I think it’s probably going to take the back seat to a few other things I need to pay for in my life

The problem here is probably more so people who go to a stadium and have to drink. I like a beer occasionally and also go to stadiums weekly. I have enough self control to go without booze for the couple of hours that I am there and just have a water or soft drink.

I also work at one of the stadiums and am staggered when I see people going back and forth from the bar 4-5 times during a footy match. Not to mention 99% of crowd problems at stadiums are caused by alcohol.

    20. The problem isn’t this price necessarily.

The problem is that people will pay it.

If they couldn’t sell boozey lemonade for $15 a can, they wouldn’t.

    21. LowVideo756 on

It was $17.50 for a hard solo premix out of the tap at the forum. I genuinely couldn’t believe when I saw the numbers on the eftpos machine.

I watched a yt the other day where the dude made alcoholic lemon as the cheapest possible hooch he could come up with.

    23. Even worse is I used to own a brewery and know how little these cost to make. Even at $48 a 10 pack at Dan’s it’s highway robbery…and the mob doing Rod Laver’s booze would be buying it for well under $4 a can.

    24. The price of football grog has always been extortionate. Remember when it was disgustingly high at $5 a can?

    25. Yeah I was at the MCG Friday night and I saw guys paying $15 for 1 drink oh also he was shouting his mates as we do so can’t imagine the total and I’ve been sober 4 years so clearly dont keep up to date but those prices are ridiculous

    26. mad_cheese_hattwe on

I had chuckle with all the pearl clutching around hard solo attracting kids to drinking when I saw they were selling it for $120 for a case of 30.

What teenage is going to be spending money on that.

    27. Solo for $15 hahahahaha. They seriously think booze drinkers are low IQ as fuck.

    28. Meanwhile in Singapore I bought 3x 450ml cans of 8% beer from a 7-11 for a$11
