Traffic nuts but the boardwalk is excellent for cycling/running/walking so that is the way forward for Dublin beaches/coastal villages

Going to howth on a day like today seems so stressful and I doubt I’d get an ounce of enjoyment from it. Maybe it’s my slight autism but how does tonnes of queues and crowds in stifling heat appeal to anyone?
wascallywabbit666 on
That’s not just the beach though, it’s a big maritime festival in Howth.
I joined the end of that queue, and in 10 – 15 minutes I was on a Dart. If I’d driven it would have taken an hour to get from Howth to Sutton.
Edit: To be fair to them they didn’t charge anyone for journeys, they just told everyone to get straight on. That saved a lot of time
Difficult_Tea6136 on
I expected it to be longer when I saw the thread title.
Darts are ridiculously big and will fit most of those in the queue

Do they think the wait would be less or more enjoyable sitting in the traffic if all those people were driving cars?
OutInABlazeOfGlory on
“Get public transport they say…”
They say like a car would be any better. Then you can sit in traffic for thirty minutes, put wear and tear on the engine, and idle and burn fuel you bought with money you could’ve spent elsewhere.
Be mad at the government not funding rail.

I was there. It wasnt that bad. Once the train came the qs moved fairly quickly. It just looked longer because they were keeping people out of station

What isn’t mentioned here is that there was a festival on in Howth today, and the train from Howth was free of charge.

Was there yesterday. The line was long but moved really fast.
The irish rail staff moved the qeue on in waves into the station and had a separated line for buggies, wheelchairs elderly etc.
They organised it and controlled the crowds really well.
They had the gates open and told everyone not to tag on or off, so the trip back to town was even free.
Fingal co council done a really great job with the festival too.
Was really impressed with how well it went with a way bigger crowd than they probably expected.

This is rage bait. I’m just back from there. It was very well organised, we were no more then 10 minutes in this queue. They were just holding people outside the station until the DART came and then it was like go, go, go, keep moving, as they loaded the entire queue onto the DART.

Spare a thought for our emergency services and hospital workers on a day like today. I was working today and had to call an ambulance for a customer who had passed out from an injury he sustained earlier in the day (suspected bad concussion). We were waiting over an hour for the ambulance to arrive. These sunny days when lots of people are out and about en masse things happen and our first responders and A&E staff get very stretched.

Another example of how poorly Dublin infrastructure is funded. A Transport system that is years behind most European capitals.

The roads were absolutely mobbed as well. Trains are the more efficient option, but obviously thats a much bigger spike then the system is used to.

I was also there, the line moved pretty well for how many people were there, huge crowds though, not gonna lie. My only thing with the trains was it was like a sauna inside them, on the way to Howth the train didn’t have windows that opened and no AC and some folks were looking rough from the heat but nobody passed out at least.
