If the public could nominate a name, what do you reckon it would be? Stick your answer below.
Edit: My submission would be Clover Fields, in a nod to the Sydney Lord Mayor and the monster movie.

It already has a name, which is Glebe Island.
Couldn’t find an indigenous name for it, maybe because 50% of the local population died of smallpox within 18 months of colonists arriving. Most likely hitting those closest to Farm Cove the hardest, so maybe the name is lost to history?
(and yeah, there are small parts of the development that aren’t on the original Glebe Island, but since it’s not an island anymore anyway and Slagicals love adopting vanity suburb names from the one next door, at worst you could call the smaller Rozelle part “Glebe Island South” if you really had to)

Just keep the name that is now. They’ll spend hundreds of thousands to change a name that doesn’t need the name changed.
Anyway no matter what the name is the residents will complain about the cruise ships soon enough.

Right way to do it would be to have submissions for a new name from the public, then have a selected shortlist for people to vote on.
Winner from the shortlist gets the nod, but the shortlist itself isn’t necessarily determined by popular vote.
Avoids the Suburb McSuburbface issue whilst still giving the public a say on names provided by the public.

My son pronounces glebe gl-eb-y with a short E sound in the middle and a long E at the end because he’d seen it written before hearing it and that made sense to him at the time.
It certainly draws a surprising amount of attention when he uses it in public and it’s hard to forget.
How bout stick with glebe island but change the pronunciation to be more phonetical.

I say let it be suburb mcsuburbface.
Would be a great reminder that letting everyone ‘have a say’ isn’t always the right course of action.

Back when the temporary ICC was there it was referred to as Glebe Island, so why not keep it?

Post title doesn’t match the article title, which makes sense for them to change it because as per the article, Ferry McFerryface wasn’t shortlisted in the popular vote, but rather a “How-are-you-doing-fellow-kids” situation where the transport minister wanted to seem hip in response to Boaty McBoatyface.

Wouldn’t it be great if they end up naming it Suburb McSuburbface? It’s what the people want.
