    1. Liberals should have just become the teals like hannah ferguson said. Stick to the lower tax/pro business owner stuff, but environmentally and socially progressive.

If they had done that the nationals would be gettihg wiped out not the entire coalition

If they do this right, it could be a golden opportunity to form a firewall against One Nation.

Coalition and One Nation are now strong allies. If this new Teal party manages to wipe out a significant chunk of the Liberal vote in 2028 and directs preferences to Labor over One Nation, they can stop One Nation winning dozens of seats on preferences. This would particularly apply in outer suburban seats in capital cities and some regional seats. Teals wouldn’t necessarily win these seats but they can stop One Nation.

The Coalition used to put One Nation below the ALP for decades, they only recently changed and because of this One Nation is being legitimised.

    3. I think someone in the vein of the OG Democrats – not whatever bastardisation they’ve become in the years since losing all their Senators – still has a place in parliament.

Keep the bastards honest was a good catch cry, but on a policy front, having people who who would scrutanise from the centre against the standing party of the day, not just tow the company line towards whichever party was on its side of the bell curve, is interesting.

Adopting a leadership structure will likely be a sticking point. Having all these independents needing to work together and get behind one leader seems challenging but not impossible.

    4. Good healthy opposition is very healthy for democracy as well should hopefully stunt the growth of nutcase parties

Then they may as well form a coalition with The Greens for all the good this will do.

    6. Teal, nationals, one nation, LNP all gonna form a coalition. If they get in power there will be so much arguing

    7. Bring it on!

Some of the Teals like Monique Ryan and Kate Chaney have said they’re not on board. So it’ll be interesting to see.

Ultimately, the Liberals are no longer a centre-right party. They’re Temu One Nation.

There is space in the political spectrum for a sensible, centre-right party with economically liberal policies combined with socially progressive policies and a science based approach to things like climate change.

If such a party got created, the Liberals would be finished. One Nation would replace the Nationals.

And, I think that party would be a real chance at forming government in 2032 or 2035. Which is important, because by then the current government will be getting long in the tooth, and it’s important voters have a real choice – both to keep the current government on their toes, but also to have a credible alternative to replace them.

Bet Josh Frydenberg is kicking himself for snubbing Simon Holmes a Court at that party.

David Pocock doesn’t belong with those others. He would be more effective remaining independent but yes, I can see the others working together well.

It sounds like basically what the Australian Democrats were before they shat the bed.
