      Two things are becoming clear.

      1. Defending against ballistic missiles is prohibitively expensive with no obvious solution yet available
      2. Taking out any other weapon on the battlefield larger than 20cm in diameter is cheap.

Israel has lasers to defend against these drones. Laser shots are much cheaper than even these cheap drones.

We knew this a long time ago but didn’t make economically viable counter measures is crazy.

    4. And countries are still investing in bigger ships and planes… drones are the future of air and sea.

I’ve seen at least 4 different videos of Iron Dome Batteries being struck. This has nothing to do with interceptors being fired at drones. They are using cheap FPV drones to hit the batteries.

The article claims fiber optic drones are “impossible to trace.” The fiber optic cable leads right back to the launch site.

    7. The smart move by Israel would be to reach out to Ukraine. They are literally at the forefront of Drone Warfare and would be happy to provide assistance in return for money and other types of warfare materiel.

    8. If this keeps going on Hezbollah could do human safaris in Northern Israel

Knowing Reddit, this will be celebrated as decolonization

They need to make kamikaze drones that can take out other drones. That’s my 2 cents

    10. > Inexpensive fiber-optic drones

have been active in Ukraine for years by now. How the fuck are militaries around the world this ill prepared against them?

The Iron Dome was never designed to combat drones. It was designed to combat the near daily instructional Palestinian rocket attacks that a certain movement thinks Israel should just have to put up with forever.

They had plenty of time to prepare for this threat. This the result of not preparing for it. Fiber Optics Drones have been a known threat for over 2-3 years.

Why not just a high caliber CWIS? I doubt it would need to shoot that many rps, and ukraine has shown that bullets can take out drones since they are so cheaply made.

Anyone in the comments who thinks this is good for Hezbollah should take a second to remember what the Iron dome is an alternative to.

There was an article I read years ago (foreign policy magazine maybe?) that warned of something like this. Basically Israel is way smaller than its neighbors and can’t hold out forever against hostile forces that outnumber them. Once their adversaries caught up (at least a certain amount) in tech, Israel would be in severe danger.

Drones are future. Put small drones powered by AI in hypersonic missile that releases drones like cluster bombs and it’s over. All the missile has to do is fly over the target area to release the drones or detect it’s about to be intercepted and release the drones before it’s intercepted. The hypersonic missile can just flyby over 30,000 feet and hundreds of drones just loiter slowly with over 50 miles of range by gliding down slowly

You know what a good way to have cheap drones not break through the Iron Dome? By not starting a war

That’s how it is. A 2 billion dollar AC carrier is somehow useless against a swarm of inexpensive bees.

    19. Just target the fiber optic cable supply chain FFS.. it’s not THAT easy to make fiber optic cable on the scale needed to let a ridiculous number of drones be fielded.

Stop the sand, stop the fiber optic production, blow up the plants and interrupt the supply chain.

    20. Ahh just like the Denial of service attacks during the early days of the internet … how interesting
