North Korean media say the ruling Workers’ Party will convene a plenary meeting of the Central Committee in late June.
Monday’s edition of the ruling party’s newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on the meeting, citing a decision made by the party’s Political Bureau.
This will be the first plenary meeting of the Central Committee since February, and important policies are expected to be presented.
At the Workers’ Party congress held in February, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un indicated that the country could improve relations with the United States if Washington withdraws its hostile policy toward Pyongyang.
The US government said President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping “confirmed their shared goal to denuclearize North Korea” during their summit earlier this month.
North Korea claims that it is a nuclear weapons state, and is stepping up its stance of refusing to denuclearize.
Next month’s meeting will be closely watched for any references by Kim to North Korea’s relationship with the Trump administration, as well as the country’s nuclear and missile development programs.
