      If Massie actually wanted to split with his party he could almost singlehandedly flip control of the house of representatives and oust the speaker. The margins are insanely close right now. That would deny Trump another 1000 page bill of whatever he wants with this year’s reconciliation.

      He has the power to make a huge difference with his last 6 months in Congress *and he won’t do it because he fundamentally agrees with 90% of Trump’s agenda*.

      Well yeah. Midterms typically swing away from the President’s party and Trump is inserting himself into these elections with his approval rating in the toilet. Trump can support these terrible candidates in primaries all he wants, but it could cost them in the general. For example, Ken Paxton and John Cornyn are both terrible, but Paxton is openly corrupt and not as electable in a general election. Dems could end up with that Texas seat because of it.

      He’s not entirely wrong. The problem with gerrymandering is that you can go for *more* districts or *safer* districts, but you can’t do both at once: you necessarily sacrifice one for the other. Since the GOP is aiming to increase its number of seats, that incurs risk that things won’t necessarily go according to plan. These things can backfire, and it has happened.

      Unfortunately, the Dems look to be on track to screw things up yet again.

      Please god, run as an independent in Kentucky if you can. Actually I don’t know if he can. But it would help turn the house if he split that vote.

      Thomas Massie won about 45% of the vote in Kentucky.

      Think about the implications of that, especially considering the record breaking amount of institutional and AIPAC money that went towards funding his opponent’s campaign.

      Even then, in such a popular election, 45% of Republicans rejected Trump…

      This is not the huge win MAGA thinks it is.

      That said, I shouldn’t be complaining about Republican party factionalism…

      Because MAGA’s political tribalism, in-group loyalty, herd mentality, whatever you want to call it, is actually extremely problematic for Trump and his party.

      Especially come midterms when these MAGA goons will face left wing opponents who will outperform in their elections because they’re not the ones associated with an increasingly unpopular president.

      Also, how are Trump’s most staunch supporters coping with Trump endorsing a candidate who received massive amounts of campaign funds from AIPAC? Knowing of course that these are the same people who accomodate literal neo-nazis within their party…

      Massie’s opponent had no discernable platform other than “I’ll do whatever Trump demands of me.” Which, coincidentally, is the same position that MAGA voters took when they elected him.

      Trump’s MAGA base just votes for whomever he tells them to—jumps when he says jump.

      Which makes this problematic for our democracy as well because it’s painfully obvious at this point that Trump’s followers will always choose him over party and even over country.

      Perhaps Trump should have taken Massie’s concerns seriously considering how his approval ratings are plummeting and the American people are overwhelmingly fed up with presidency and disapprove of his handling of every major issue. views of many conservative China hawks.

      The truth is, Americans are souring on Trump and the MAGA because of a lack of consistent values and a complete disregard for the law and long standing democratic norms.

      And right leaning moderates and independents have become disenchanted with Trump because he’s abandoned a conservative ethos in favor of governing for himself.

      A recent poll by Nytimes/Sienna just revealed that Trump’s approval rating among independents is at a whopping 26%.

      These are the voters who are going to decide elections, not the MAGA herd.

      The irony of it all is, TRUMP is the “Republican in name only.”

      Massie is no personal hero of mine, but still, what Trump and his MAGA cultists are really conveying here is that if you want to earn the title of a “true” Republican, you must establish one thing above all else: your uncompromising loyalty to Donald Trump.

      In the end, the only qualification that matters to Trump is whether a candidate is prepared to offer him their undying fealty and obedience (TV ratings too), and don’t expect anything in return because that fealty will never be reciprocated.

      These cowards must be willing to compromise whatever values they might have left for Trump’s sake. They must be willing to choose Trump over the rule of law, and they must also be spineless enough to submit to his every whim.

      This type of blind loyalty is detrimental to our democracy.

      By pledging themselves to one man, these chickenshit politicians are forsaking the very principles upon which this nation was founded.

      The only upside here is that while these kowtowing traitors are celebrating their meager wins, they’re also alienating everyone outside of their little clique.

      My primary ballot this year was the longest ballot I’ve ever filled out.

      28 different sections to select a candidate from and 1 referendum question. 8 pages front and back, 4 sheets total. Probably something like 100 different names throughout the whole thing.

      But I still made sure to do my research and make sure I made the best choices I could. It took about an hour to do all the work. A lot of choices were quick and easy so it ended up being just a handful of candidates that took the most time to research.

      Voters are really being pushed to their limits. I like voting but I know not everyone puts in the same amount of time and effort that I do and we’re at a point in our Democracy where not voting “correctly” is the difference between someone’s American Dream or Nightmare.

      Situations like Massie is why Republicans don’t want ranked choice voting and even open primaries. A lot of Democrats would vote for him because he had the balls to do what’s right. By having closed primaries where a registered voter can only vote for their own party’s candidates, they can’t vote for the lesser evil(the better Republican candidate). Thus, the Republican party gets to vote in their far right politicians. This is how they keep their psycho agenda.

      No they won’t that vulnerable. The Trump admin is already setting things up to completely screw with the mid terms and the ’28 election. Combine that with the level of stupid in this country that will never vote for a democrat and we’re very much in danger of seeing things completely collapse.
