Yeah no this isn’t worth it at all lol. Even if it was cheaper I’d be against it.
I hear that ballrooms cost more than a billion these days.
No way is $152 million enough to reopen a prison that’s been closed for decades.
Is there literally any reason to reopen it beyond theatrics? Something tells me the answer is no.
The reason of closing, is not as GOP said “weak on crime”, is more of the cost and simply not worth running it anymore.

Utter waste of money, and there is no way it’ll be only $150m. The transport costs alone to get material out to the island will be more than that.

This is performative at best. How about building a moat around the White House while your at it? A drawbridge would ad nicely to the decor.
If he and his family will take it as permanent resident, you should consider that option.
How much more is this going to cost to build and run when **everything** has to be brought in by boat or helicopter?
Hopefully whoever is in charge of this is smart enough to slow walk it through the pre-construction phases so it can easily be undone when the time comes.
How about concentrating on health care, or literally anything that touches the lives of the millions of people that your inane policies have affected?

I visited Alcatraz last year. There is zero reason to do this. The place is a historical landmark and making it into anything even remotely resembling a modern prison would be ludicrous. It will cost way more than whatever they’re estimating, you’d have to basically pull it down to the studs and rebuild it entirely. May they block this for long enough for this dude to get permanently distracted elsewhere.
Where do the prison guards live? That’s some of the most expensive real estate in the country near there and you would have to bring every shift in by boat and return the previous shift back to shore who then can’t afford to live in the area. So your 12 hour shift turns into what? 16 or 18 hours with the commute??
How about a compromise? Alcatraz gets turned into the ballroom and then we can send the whole family there. Forever.

That place is literally rotted – wet and rusty and the inside of the building is covered with algae like it was pulled from the bottom of the sea. And that was when I visited in the 90’s- can’t imagine now.

Alcatraz closed in the first place because it was deteriorating and the cost of running the place far outweighed the benefits of keeping it open due to the difficulty of getting supplies exclusively by boat. This is just another show from this administration to try and look strong and tough against crime, while they pardon, reward, and pay off actual criminals and continue to put them into positions of power within the administration.
….maybe put his presidential library, stupid fucking arch and all of his family there?
