The Austrian Parliament is considering reducing VAT on selected fruit and vegetable products from 10% to 4.9%.

The Finance Committee approved the draft amendment on 12 May 2026, and it now awaits constitutional approval by the National Council.

The reduced VAT would apply to vegetables and fruits, while restaurant sales would remain excluded.

The bill was supported by the V, S, and N parties, and opposed by the F and G parties.

If approved, the new VAT rate will take effect from 1 July 2026.
