Hate it or love it, Moons were quiet something and a wild ride. It was quiet a unique experiment.
I still think there was some good ideas in there in content and engagement reward, and showed that there were potential alternatives to ads in rewarding content creators. And there were ways to give more power to the community and decentralize some of the decision making.
Sure, there were still a lot of problems, moon farming, some abuse, etc…
But it was still a work in progress.
It’s too bad Reddit switched off too quickly before Moons got smoothed out and got fully developed.

Moons were a failed experiment that shows what happens when every post is effectively monetized. I was on this sub before, during, and (obviously) after Moons existed.
Moons reduced the quality of content at the expanse of massive quantity. It became a bot farming fest. You’d see widespread, coordinated downvoting. Because downvoting someone else’s content meant yours had more potential to earn Moons.
I hope this is not the future of social media.
And to top it off, they absolutely botched the “sunsetting”. Moons will forever leave a bad taste in my mouth.
