    1. We need the Clarity Act to do its job.

Expecting people to provide a yes or no response to:

“Should Alberta remain a province of Canada or should the Government of Alberta commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada?”

should be, imho, a complete non-starter.

Doesn’t matter what the actual vote result is.

What matters is, will society hold together if things turn violent – how will the police react, how will the feds react, and what will the US do?

Donbas 2013-14 is the separatist template. (And Trump’s too?)

Buddy Quebec has been around 30% for well over a generation, grass is always greener. Until it ain’t.

She stated over & over again that she is a federalist & would vote to stay in Canada. Smith didn’t handle this referendum “poorly”. In fact, she handled it the best way she could.

30% + apathy is dangerous. Disgruntled people are motivated to vote. People aren’t as motivated to show up to keep the status quo.

She probably already knows that, and just fulfilling an obligation to the petitioners to shut them up.

If the separatists put even just 10% of the energy they use on complaining and redirect to try to improve this country we would be in a much better place.

She did what she was told to do. Now the focus can go back to the healthcare scandal

Think Brexit – these folks promise you everything and you get misery.

Hey, Alberta! Let’s separate, it will be great! The oil, which already belongs to the province will belong to only Albertans. We’ll probably have to share it with the natives because we’ll have to take over the Federal treaties, since historically, who knows how much of the province will be considered originally theirs, oral records are difficult argue against, and that will be cause for renegotiations. Any company which doesn’t want to ride-out the rough and unpredictable transition will leave. Remember all the headquarters which left Quebec; and they didn’t even go through with their separation. As the highest earning Canadians, we can bear the costs of separating ourselves! It will be so exciting to read about all the things we didn’t anticipate and how no one has a plan but it will be okay, because we will still have our oil which we will share with the natives to get them on side.

this is literally so fucking dumb. Have these people thought about the reality of separating? It wouldn’t be pretty
