Typical of big semi state organisations. No one accountable, fines (if levvied) are just the cost of doing business.

If this was someone’s home heating oil tank their insurance would be getting a whopper bill.

    2. Same day it’s announced Irish Rail have wasted 50 million in tax payers money on an IT system that they won’t be using. A well run organization.

I worked for them in IT and the place is a fucking shit show so neither of the news stories about them today is surprising.

Any word about this (environmental disaster*) from Barry Kenny…?

      * Or the 50 million taxpayers money write-off…?

“A spokesperson for Dublin City Council added that the council will “continue to monitor the situation” and engage with the relevant authorities as “the incident response remains ongoing”.

Just sums up the public sector. Stop monitoring and start prosecuting. where are the Environmental Protection Agency in all this?

CEO of Irish Rail should be summonsed to court to explain this. Then it would get sorted out quickly.

    6. I’m beginning to think the Civil Service needs a massive kick up the hole. The recent scandals around IT projects (phenomenal amounts of money squandered). The lack of progress with HSE Digital Patient Records (we’re one of the worst countries in the western world for digitisation). Dublin City Council’s seeming inability to manage the city. The lack of progress with so many projects. Someone needs to start cracking the whip.

I’m guessing this is some massive tank buried under concrete and they would require some serious sized back up to undergo the repairs.

Not defending them but there has to be some kind of issue that they can’t go at it simply.

    8. “For a number of weeks” my bollox. I noticed the oily sheen in Liffey in this area years ago but did not know where it was coming from.

    9. Why is this not surprising. It must be a scum higher mgmt culture that allows something like this not to be fixed with urgency.

    10. That’s pretty far from Connolly Station. Is this from some ancient connection that tankers used to hook up to or something, or is it scuttling through the stormdrains

You can see the sheen on google maps – it actually looks like it’s coming from the drawbridge.
