The South Korean military says North Korea has fired multiple projectiles, including short-range ballistic missiles, toward the Yellow Sea on the west side of the Korean Peninsula.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that it detected the projectiles were launched from near Jongju in North Phyongan Province at around 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, local time.

The missiles are said to have flown more than 80 kilometers. Pyongyang last fired ballistic missiles on April 19.

The South Korean military says it will share information with Japan and the United States, and maintains a full readiness posture.

The military had conducted its regular exercise over five days from May 18. Local media say the North may have tried to showcase its missile capability.
