    1. Lukashenko has nothing to gain and everything to lose. This _has_ to be pointless sabre rattling, right? He’s a political eel who’s managed to stay in power despite crisis after crisis, so why would he now, when Russia is so obviously on the back foot, throw his lot in with Putin’s wild ride?

In this case, Lukashenko is probably at least partially right. The drones attacking Russian facilities around St Petersburg are pretty obviously following the border between Russia and Baltic countries, and you can’t really get there without crossing Belarus first.

Given that he just complains instead of shooting them down shows that he does not actually take any issue with the end results (burning Russian ports), at most with the risk of being drawn into the shooting.

They could’ve chosen to disallow Russia from staging troops and actively attacking Ukraine from Belarus. Especially now Russia is weak Lukashenko could do an Uno reverse and have all Russians in his pathetic country removed by allowing Ukraine to strike their staging areas.
