North Korea says it has test-fired a new lightweight multipurpose missile launching system and multiple tactical cruise missiles.

The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) said on Wednesday that the test-firing was conducted the previous day and that it was overseen by regime leader Kim Jong-un.

The KCNA said the test analyzed and assessed the power of the special mission warhead of tactical ballistic missile, the reliability of the 240mm controlled artillery rocket’s ultra-precision autonomous navigation system, and the AI-guided strike accuracy of the tactical cruise missile.

The news agency said Kim expressed “great satisfaction” and said the test is a clear signal of renewed military capacity and technological advancement in combat capability.

The KCNA said Kim praised the tactical cruise missile, set to be deployed at long-range artillery units near the southern border, and claimed that the navigation- and AI-equipped missile system is capable of hitting any target within 100 kilometers with high precision.

On Tuesday, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said it had detected multiple projectiles, including a close-range ballistic missile, fired toward the Yellow Sea from the Jongju area in North Pyongan Province.
